Art has been an integral part of our existence since the beginning of time. From the old stone age, where archaeologists have found early rock carvings and cave paintings to the New Stone Age where more advanced forms of art, such as pottery, weaving and creative tools have been discovered, we can easily see that the desire to be creative is an innate part of being human.

Teaching Format
At the Art Center @ Dragonfly Pond, we understand the importance of an individual-based education program. That is why we have a "4:1" rule. That is, in any given class, the class size is restricted to four students for every one instructor, and no more.
This allows us to give each and every student the individual attention and instruction they both need and deserve. By doing this, each student learns and works at his or her own pace, and there is no pressure from the teacher or other students to finish a project, learn a new concept, or achieve a certain skill level.
By making it fun for the students, they tend to be more excited about learning, helping them retain more and improve their abilities faster than they would in a very large class.
Sculpture
This course studies the essentials of expression and design specific to three-dimensional form. Additive, subtractive, and constructive methods are employed using traditional and non-traditional materials. The course includes discussion on internal and external space as these affect the perception of sculpture.

Painting
This course is an introduction to painting in oil and related media and offers an elementary understanding of physical properties of the medium. Formal investigation of color and composition will be emphasized.
Students work on projects in composition involving development of awarenessnof sources of design in nature and environment, and sensitivity in interpreting and transforming these sources through a variety of media and techniques. Emphasis is placed on color study.

Drawing
At the Art Center at Dragonfly Pond, we believe in educating students in the entire realm of art, not just one small niche. Many great things have come out of a student discovering that he or she loves a new medium that they would have never tried. Click on a link to the left to visit each medium's information page.

Ceramics
This course introduces the student to both hand-built and wheel-thrown forms. Clay materials and glazes are explored as means to develop a sense of three-dimensional form.
